Downtown Minneapolis is unique because of the elaborate Skyway System that connects most of downtown by above-ground heated walkways filled with small restaurants and shops. It was designed to make it comfortable and convenient to enjoy all that downtown has to offer without going outside during the winter. It is the financial center hub of Minneapolis and has a world-class convention center, luxury hotels, and award-winning restaurants. In the past decade over 10,000 additional households have moved to downtown totaling over 43,000 residents. As a result, the area has added a 2 story Target and 2 high-end grocery stores (Byerly/Lunds and Whole Foods). Light rail connects downtown to St Paul, The Mall of America, and the Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport.
There are a number of condominiums and townhomes ranging from $300,000’s to over $10,000,000. Two new luxury condominiums are being built. The Four Seasons Residences offer a new level of luxury amenities.
Many of the residents have sold homes in the suburbs and moved downtown for their high walkability scores. One can live and work downtown and enjoy the use of skyways and the many restaurants out their door. It is a short walk to the world-class Orchestra Hall and Peavy Plaza. The Nicollet Mall was recently renovated providing an enjoyable “no cars” walking mall with restaurants and shops. The stunning new US Bank Stadium is also located here and is home to the Minnesota Vikings.
